Oshiwara police detained actor Shiney Ahuja on Sunday night after his domestic help complained that he had raped her.
No formal case was registered, as reports of medical examinations of both Ahuja and the victim were awaited.
The 18-year-old woman approached the Oshiwara police on Sunday evening and said that Ahuja had raped her at his Oshiwara residence when she was alone in the afternoon. Amitabh Gupta, additional commissioner of police (west) confirmed the complaint.
“Ahuja is only detained as of now, as no formal case has been registered yet,” said Gupta. Further action depends on the results of the medical examinations.
Sources said Ahuja could be arrested late on Sunday or early on Monday if the reports confirm sexual assault.
Though Ahuja, son of an Army commander, is married, he is reportedly living alone at his Oshiwara residence.
Ahuja made his acting debut with Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, which was released in 2005.
The film won Ahuja rave reviews and was viewed as one of the best films of that year. He grew more familiar with mainstream audiences with Karam, where he starred alongside John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra. He then became popular with his title role in Mahesh Bhatt’s Gangster, which was both a critical and commercial success.
Ahuja’s next release in 2006 was Woh Lamhe which was critically acclaimed and did well at the box office. He bagged the Kalakar award for ‘Best actor in 2008’ for Khoya Khoya Chand. Before making his debut in films, Ahuja also modelled and featured in commercial advertisements.
